How to convert a PDF to PNG online

Choosing the right PNG resolution for your PDF

Resolution controls the pixel count in each exported image. At 96 dots per inch, a US Letter page becomes about 816 by 1,056 pixels, which is enough for screen viewing and keeps the download small. At 150 DPI the same page more than doubles in pixel area, giving a balanced result that works for sharing, embedding in documents, or reviewing on a monitor. At 300 DPI the page has nearly ten times the pixel area of the 96 DPI version, so small type stays sharp and you can zoom in to read fine print, but each file is several times larger.

PNG is a lossless format that preserves every pixel exactly. It suits pages made of text, charts, diagrams, screenshots, line drawings and flat colour. Hard edges stay clean with no halos or compression artefacts. The trade-off is file size: a PNG of a photographic or continuous-tone page is typically much larger than a JPG of the same page. For scans and photographs, PDF to JPG can produce a smaller file. For mixed content, the combined PDF to images tool lets you switch between JPG and PNG per job. In either format, the output is a picture and no longer contains selectable text.

Is there a maximum PNG page size?
Yes. A single converted page is capped at 40 million pixels. If a page at the chosen resolution would exceed that, the tool reports an error instead of returning a truncated image. Lower the DPI to stay within the limit.
